TOURS IN ROME
These
are our suggestions for a city sightseeing tour by bus:
Saint Peter's Basilica with its magnificent square by Bernini will
be our starting point. Our tour will take us past Castel
Sant’Angelo, the ancient papal fortress and then along
Lungotevere, a lovely city street that follows the Tiber
River to Trastevere, a neighbourhood reminiscent of
medieval Rome. Then it’s off to the Tiberine island, Piramide
Cestia, an ancient Roman pyramid within the ancient Roman city
walls, the Caracalla Baths and the beginning of the
ancient Appian way, the first of numerous Roman
“highways and byways” to be built. We will then be able to admire
the Basilica San Giovanni in Laterano the ancient Papal
residence and the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore.
Our bus will then take us past the Colosseum, Rome’s
ancient amphitheatre built by the Flavian family for gladiator games,
the Circus Maximus where chariots raced, the Palatine
hill where Romulus founded Rome in 753 B.C, the Imperial
and Roman Forums where Ceasar spoke the citizens of Rome.
To end our tour, we will drive past Piazza Venezia with
its large national monument called the Vittoriano, to join
the Lungotevere once again where we’ll be able to see
the Synagogue before returning to the Vatican area. |
