Tivoli and
its villas
-Half-day
tour (4 hours), including just villa D'Este
-Full day (8hours), including Villa D'Este and Hadrian's Villa.
Going East on the motorway A 24 that follows the ancient Via Tiburtina
after 30 Km ,we will reach Tivoli. At the foot of the Tiburtini hills,
source of the springs that supply the spa town of Bagni di Tivoli, home
to vast quarries of travertine marble, you will stop to first the ruins
of Villa Adriana which can only hint at the grandeur and beauty of this
Villa which was built by Emperor Hadrian to remind him of the monuments
and sites he had seen during his travels around the ancient Roman
empire. We will see the Pecile, big Thermal Baths, the Small Thermal
Baths and the Canopo.
Then we will continue to Villa D’Este. Its frescoes make it one of the
most beautiful residences of the Renaissance, built by cardinal Ippolito
D’Este.
The Villa’s countless fountains, set in the heart of magnificent
Italian style gardens, create a delightfully graceful symphony of carved
stone, shade, sunlight and water coming directly from the Aniene river.
We will see the Rometta Foutain, the Ovato Fountain, and the Dragon
Fountain.
Here
our tour ends and we will start our return back to Rome.
